Since inception in 2004, the FAN4Kids program has demonstrated a direct, positive impact on the children we serve in New York and New Jersey. The 2011 data that we have collected (Body Mass Index, academic/focus, classroom and recess behavior) support the feedback of administrators, teachers and parents who report that FAN4Kids has changed the school health environment, the confidence and behaviors of the children, their families and even the classroom teachers. Highlights include:
Academic Results:
In the three years that FAN4Kids served 1st to 3rd graders at PS 69 in Bronx, NY, the school moved from a 68th percentile elementary school to a 98th percentile school (2008 to 2010).
Recess:
Survey shows teachers prefer FAN4Kids recess to “normal” recess:
➢ Rating attentiveness (student focus) in the lesson directly after lunch/recess, on a scale of 1 to 3, teacher’s scored FAN4Kids days, on average, 1.15 compared to 2.05, or again almost twice as good than non-FAN4Kids recess days
